For Patients
Office-based anesthesia lets you get the dental care you need in the comfort of your own dentist’s office. A little preparation beforehand helps the visit go calmly and smoothly.
Who office-based anesthesia helps
OBA is for patients of all ages — from pediatrics to geriatrics — and especially helps people who have:
- Dental anxiety
- Cognitive impairment
- A history of trauma or PTSD
- Special needs
- An age of 6 or younger
- Extensive dental work to complete in one visit
What office-based anesthesia & sedation is
A variety of medication options are chosen and administered to each patient’s needs — all while you stay in your dentist’s inspected and permitted office.
Deep Sedation
A state of unconsciousness in which the patient does not see, hear, or feel anything unpleasant during care. It is given through an IV line.
General Anesthesia (TIVA)
Unconsciousness produced by medications for amnesia, pain control, sedation, and muscle relaxation, given through an IV. Eximios uses a Total Intravenous Anesthetic (TIVA).
What to expect
After your consult with your dentist, the anesthesia side works like this:
- Initial review of your health history and needs.
- A phone call with your anesthesia provider the week before your procedure.
- A clear explanation of what to expect before arrival and during the procedure.
- Instructions for medications and navigating recovery.
- Answers to any questions you have.
